Before Sending First Holy Communion Invitations

Obviously, your child should First be properly baptized before planning the Communion ceremony. Most churches will require documentation of the baptism before continuing with the preparations. If your child is around the appropriate age for you to begin sending out Holy Communion cards or baptism invitationsbut he or she has not been baptized most churches will help prepare for both ceremonies simultaneously. However, the baptism needs to be completed prior to the 1st Communion.

Generally, most children are expected to attend special classes prior to the sending of Holy invitation invitations. These classes are intended to teach young people about the Bible and about the significance of what they are doing. You should discuss these requirements with your clergy when planning the ritual. If your child is already enrolled in a parochial school, however, these classes may not be necessary. These are sent out much after you have mailed your christening invitations or other Religious Invitations. We offer lots of sample religious wordings, verses and sayings to help you.

Other Information for Sending Communion Announcements

Keep in mind that most of these events are scheduled around Easter. Because that day can be special for many of the people you want to invite, you should send 1st Holy invitations as early as possible so friends and family members can plan to attend and be a part of this once in a lifetime day for your child. Keep the First Communion cards simple and in good taste. If you're only inviting a few people, you may be able to avoid sending custom Holy Communion invitations but remember the invitations are also important because they can serve as keepsakes.

In most cases, your child will also have to complete his or her First confession prior to the date on the invitations First Holy Communion. Your clergy will set a specific day for this event. No one else needs to attend this part of the event. It's a time for your child to complete preparations for the First Communion by asking for forgiveness. Usually, this portion of the requirements takes place a week or so before the actual Communion.

Don't just send First Holy Communion cards and leave the rest of the preparations to the clergy. As a parent, you can do a great deal to help your child with this process. For example, spending at least 30 to 60 minutes a few nights a week to discussing the significance of First Holy Communion and confession, as well as the Bible, can be a good way for your child to further prepare. Being supportive and helping him or her practice the liturgy is also a good idea.
