The Basics about the Mardi Gras Invitation

First, you should know that the celebration is part of a religious tradition. That might come as quite a shock if you seem some of the footage from the events in the French Quarter but it's true. Carnival is a three day period right before Lent which lets people indulge their whims before having to make those sacrifices that last all the way until Easter. Given that Carnival usually begins in the middle of February that is a long time to deprive yourself and is a good reason to go a little crazy. Hence the reason you're sending out those invitations Mardi Gras.

If you're wondering why the celebration is sometimes called Fat Tuesday, that's because the final day of Carnival always falls on a Tuesday and since it's a day for gluttony the name seems appropriate. The other reason is that Mardi Gras is French for Fat Tuesday. Whether you use the French or the English term for the celebration, having one of these parties at home can be a lot of fun.

Choosing Your Invites

To have an authentic celebration, you've got to start with the colors: purple, gold and green. These represent justice, power and faith. Almost everything you see during the celebration is going to be in those three colors so that should be the focus of your decorations also. As you are reading more About Mardi Gras invitations cards, you'll want to remember those colors and also the tradition of Mardi Gras masks. The masks are also a staple of the celebration and have been for a long time thanks to some fabulous masquerade parties, known as balls, which are held annually in New Orleans. Remember the masks are intended to provide you with anonymity while you indulge yourself at the party.

You should also have plenty of party favors for everyone who receives your unique Mardi Gras invitations. These favors play an important role in the festivities. In all cities throughout the world there are  groups known as, Krewes, that are responsible for handling different parts of the events, such as throwing the balls and handling parts of the parades. To please the crowds, the Krewes started throwing out items including doubloons (coins marked with the Krewes' insignia) and colored beads. In January and February, you can find these beads priced affordably at most party outlet stores. You can browse our entire collection of holiday wording, saying and verses to assist you with your invites.

Finally, you don't want to send out your custom Mardi Gras invitations cards or other Mardi Gras stationary until you've learned how to make your very own King Cake. These oval cakes are usually decorated in traditional colors.  Under the delicious cake is hidden a plastic doll. The person who finds the doll is given the responsibility of throwing the next party. King Cake is one of the most popular foods during Carnival in New Orleans.
