Important Tips for Birth Announcements Wordings
Generally, you'll want to include some basic information in the birth announcements wordings. For example, you would normally list the weight and height of the baby at birth on the card. Today, some parents are a bit hesitant to do this if they have a very small or very large baby. However, since mostly friends and relatives will be receiving the announcements, this doesn't seem to be something with which most parents should be concerned.
The time and location of the delivery is usually also part of the birth announcement wordings. Don't worry if you didn't have the baby in a hospital but instead chose an alternative spot, such as your home. There's no reason not to put that information on the card, too. Remember most of the people who receive your announcement will already know this information anyway.
Additionally, most parents tend to include the name of the new baby. Now there may be a reason why you don't want to add this information. For example, if you are saving the name revelation for the christening ceremony you might want to add this to the baby announcement wordings. For example, you might write: "The new name of our bundle of joy will be announced at the christening ceremony later this month." Of course, that means you'll probably want to invite all of your friends and family who receive these cards to the actual christening event as well.
Other Concerns About Birth Announcement Wordings
The area, which can be the most confusing in terms of wording, is probably the parents' names. That's because today's couples are becoming increasingly non-traditional and etiquette rules haven't always been updated to meet the changes in society. Don't worry though there are some basic rules that can help you figure out the best way to add your names.
For married couples who share a last name, you can keep it basic and choose one of these alternatives: Mr. and Mrs. Steve Smith or Steve and Sara Smith.
For single parents, you should only include your name unless the other parent is going to be involved with the child. If you're single because you were recently widowed, make sure to add "and the late Steve Smith" after your name.
For couples who are no longer together, it's best for each person to come up with their own birth announcements wording. Having the other parent listed in the birth announcements wording is still acceptable.
